Skincare is something that as I’ve gotten older, I’ve been making more of an effort in taking the best possible care of my skin. My skin has always been OILY with few breakouts, but I’ve noticed a change since I’ve had Brooklyn. I’ve breastfed Brooklyn for the majority of the last 7 months, with significant decreases in my supply every few months. Most recently, my supply has almost completely disappeared and I fear the dip in my hormones have left me skin looking crazy, with break outs galore.

How do I battle this new skin? With oil, breakouts, AND aging? Below are my favorite items, some new loves and some old favorites.
My face gets SO oily and I love me a good cake face. So it is incredibly important that I CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN my skin.
Micellar Water: I am OBSESSED with Micellar water, my favorite from Garnier. It is the perfect cleanser, it feels just like water. There are no harsh alcohols so it’s gentle on the skin and not drying. You end up feeling refreshed with a clean face and these puppies DO WORK and remove all oil, dirt, and make up. The best part? These are NO rinse, so saturate a cotton pad, wipe, and done. I’m all about that easy life. I use this both in the morning and at night as part of my routine.
Cleansing Oil and Gel: Did I mention I’m all about convenience when it comes to my skincare? Tatcha is one of my favorite brands; a luxury, clean label that really provides beautiful products. My go to cleansers include The Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser and The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser. I like to use the oil cleanser to help with anti-aging, preventing fine lines and wrinkles. And the exfoliating gel cleanser I use when I need a solution for my oil and breakouts. Beginning with the Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser , Sephora.com describes the cleanser as:
“A two-in-one makeup remover and cleanser with camellia oil that gently melts away impurities, even waterproof makeup, leaving behind pure, silky soft skin.”
Regarding The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser:
“A daily gel cleanser with natural fruit exfoliant that thoroughly but gently lifts impurities and unclogs pores while leaving skin soft and hydrated.”
And these products do just that. They lather beautifully and rinse off easily, leaving no residue. My skin has never felt so soft and subtle than it did after using this cleansers.
Don’t forget the toner. I’ve recently introduced the Murad’s Clarifying Toner and I love it. I put it on two cotton pads after I’ve thoroughly cleansed my face. I find this helps control my oil, tightens my pores, and helps refreshes my skin.
Moisturizers are extremely important, even with the oiliest of skin. The best moisturizers can provide balance with your skin, and if you are like me, I would highly recommend using a gel moisturizer vs. a heavy cream or lotion.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel is my OG favorite moisturizer. It provides all day hydration and just feels great on the skin.
Olehenriksen C-Rush Brightening Gel Creme This is a new favorite for me. What I love about this moisturizer is that it is supposed to help with fine lines and wrinkles and also has 3 sources of vitamin C in it, which is so incredibly important for your skin. I feel like this is my new “grown up” moisturizer. There is also a complimentary eye cream, the Banana Bright Eye Creme, which includes vitamin C and noticeable brightens the under eye area, which I am all about.
Tatcha Water Gel Another favorite. This moisturizer is pricey, but it’s beautiful, like all Tatcha products. It’s super light weight and includes 23-karat gold dust that is supposed to give your skin a glow. A little extra yes?
But I love it.
Another moisturizing favorite with a twist from Tatcha is The Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment is a tinted treatment that basically brightens and conceals the under-eye immediately, all while reducing those same dark circles and wrinkles over time. The Pearl is holy grail status and amazing. I wear it everyday and I love that it doubles as both my eye cream and concealer.
You know what I love about masks? You can treat yourself to a little self love in the comfort of your home. There are few things I enjoy better than relaxing at home in the comfiest sweats, glass of wine, and a face mask. I prefer face sheets purely because of the ease of them. Slap it on my face, relax for 20 minutes, toss it and you are done! My routine has me applying a mask almost every Sunday, as a treat for the end of the week.
One of my favorite face masks are from Dr. Jart. They have a variety of different types of masks, but my go to are the rubber masks. The rubber masks are a two part system that works with a concentrated serum + rubber mask. I always have Firm Lover and Clear Skin Lover on hand since we’ve established those are my two biggest skin concerns. After the mask, you skin feels cool and refreshed.
ACNE & AGING
To help battle my blemishes, my aesthetician recommended I try Murad’s Clarity Control Professional Concentrate. I’ve been using this for a couple weeks now and feel as thought my skin is slowly improving. With salicylic acid as a key ingredient, this concentrated liquid is supposed to help decongest, decrease blemishes, as well as improve oil. I’m hoping to make a full recommendation on this after another few weeks.
Last but not least, I’ve also recently introduced Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment into my routine. A solution for dull skin, fine lines, and wrinkles, Sephora.com describes it as:
“Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment is formulated with high potency, purified grade lactic acid that immediately exfoliates dull, pore-clogging dead skin cells, revealing smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin. Fine lines appear visually plumped while the skin looks more radiant.”
There are many more random skincare items that I test and try here and there. Liek with makeup, I’m always looking for the next best thing, but these products so far have been good to me. Other brands I also love are Drunk Elephant, IT Cosmetics, and Fresh.
