This is the year of animal print and you’ll see it at every turn. Clothing, shoes, home decor, animal print is literally everywhere. And you guys, I CAN NOT GET ENOUGH. MY husband Blair said to me the other day, do you think you have enough animal print? The answer is no, Blair. Animal print is basically a neutral and this year’s must have print and you better bet your girl has shopped till she dropped. Out of all the pieces I’ve purchased so far this year, I have to say that one of my favorites are my animal print skirts.

When making my purchases, I try to be smart about investing in versatile pieces that can be worn several different ways, dressed up or down, casual or out on the town. The best part is that this trend is available high and low, so I’m sharing some of my favorite looks with this snakeskin skirt and leopard print skirt. And I’m always looking for an excuse to not wear pants so here’s my favorite ways to style this season’s IT item, the animal print skirt.
LET’S GET GRAPHIC
There’s something about animal print and a good graphic tee and how to two play off each other. I like to style pieces that share a similar color palette or tones. Band tees are my personal favorite and adds the perfect level of edginess to an otherwise dressy item. And who doesn’t like to have a little bit of fun when the graphic tee pairs so well with a skirt like this Def Leppard Tee and a leopard print skirt. It feels so playful and on theme.
BASIC IN THE BEST WAY
Upgrade your basics because you deserve to be anything but basic. A plain solid tee or tank definitely works for an ultra casual look, but a bodysuit really ties the whole look together. A bodysuit is the perfect basic for an animal print skirt, which lays cleanly underneath any high-waisted silhouette. Pick a neutral color that’s showcased in the animal print and play around different details to really dress up this look. My favorite bodysuits are from Free People and H&M.
I also love playing with varying lengths and like to style a longer animal print skirt with a shorter silhouette so you can’t go wrong with a crop top. Or fake it with a basic tee or tank knotted to add a little more dimension to your look. Lately, finish the look off with white sneakers to really tie it all together.
MAKE IT EXPENSIVE
Now when I say expensive, I mean FEEL expensive. Animal print is a sassy trend, so to really dress it up, style the animal print skirt with items that feel expensive and luxurious. This season I’m really loving satin and these satin camis dress up any look. Layer an oversized blazer to a more sophisticated look, or pair it with a leather jacket to mix in more texture and play with opposites.
SWEATER WEATHER
It’s possible to wear animal print skirts into Fall by layering on a sweater or heavy knit top. Depending on the length of you skirt, I like to play with contrasting lengths. Meaning if your skirt is a maxi or midi, try styling a cropped sweater with your skirt. Or if you are rocking a mini, layer a chunky, oversized cardigan with your animal print. I always love to play with textures, so try a sweater with slubby yarn or really go for it with cashmere.
